The School of Management,  Universidad EAFIT  has officially received joint accreditation from the Association of MBAs (AMBA) and the Business Graduates Association (BGA), two of the world’s leading authorities on business education.

While having been accredited by AMBA, this School been granted AMBA re-accreditation for its MBA portfolio, as well as BGA accreditation for the entire Business School.

The School of Management, Universidad EAFIT is the first Latin American Business School to achieve BGA accreditation. The School offers one PhD Programme, 17 master’s degree programmes, 15 graduate certificate programmes, as well as executive education.

As part of the joint AMBA & BGA accreditation process, a panel of assessors comprised of senior Business School leaders from across the globe visited the School. The panel commended the commitment of the School to the continual improvement of every part of the learning process for students, with special mention of the programmes and buildings.

The panel also recognised the fact that that the School provides its students with innovative methods of teaching and learning. An example of one of these initiatives is undergraduate ‘seed banks’, research groups of up to 50 students, which allows as many students as possible to gain research experience.

Alumni relations was commended. Graduates from the School who are developing start-ups, are able to return to campus and use the office facilities and obtain professional/academic advice. This is part of the School’s commitment to lifelong learning and the wider aim of the University, to be for all generations.

Ricardo Uribe Marín, Dean School of Management, Universidad EAFIT said ‘The accreditation process reflects the constant commitment of the institution to ensure compliance with the highest quality standards and responsible management practices. It is a recognition of the trajectory of the University, which contributes to positively impacting our different stakeholders: students, professors, graduates, entrepreneurs, and society in general. This distinction, which fills us with joy, marks the beginning of our 60 years’

AMBA & BGA’s rigorous assessment criteria ensure that only the highest-calibre Schools which demonstrate the highest standards in teaching, curricula, and student interaction achieve accreditation.

Upon receiving AMBA accreditation, all current and recent graduates of the School’s MBA portfolio are invited to join AMBA’s global membership network of approximately 47,000 students and alumni in more than 150 countries.

Meanwhile, all undergraduates and alumni from any of the Business School’s programmes are invited to join BGA’s individual membership network. Through both these organisations, students and graduates can strengthen a community that acts as a force for good in management thought and practice, through exclusive events and business content.

AMBA & BGA accreditation is international in scope and reach, and the organisation works with senior academics at top educational institutions around the world, to update accreditation criteria continuously and maintain one unique, in-depth and detailed approach.

AMBA & BGA believes accredited Schools should be of the highest standard and reflect changing trends and innovation in post-graduate management education.  As such, the accreditation process reflects this commitment to fostering innovation and challenges Business Schools to perform at the highest level continuously.

Andrew Main Wilson, Chief Executive of AMBA & BGA, said: ‘School of Management, Universidad EAFIT shows an exemplary commitment to BGA values, and therefore I am delighted that this School has become the first in Latin America to be accredited by the Business Graduates Association. I am very encouraged by the University’s aim to be a University for all generations with its lifelong learning programmes and I am particularly interested by this in the Business School.

‘I also would like to congratulate the School for its AMBA reaccreditation.  I look forward to continuing to work with its team in the future.’

About School of Management, Universidad EAFIT,

http://www.eafit.edu.co/escuela-administracion

Universidad EAFIT is a private, non-profit, Higher Education Institution (HEI), located in Medellín-Colombia (main campus). In 1960, 19 visionary Colombian businessmen decided to set up a School of Management and Finance (EAF in Spanish) to train business managers and directors in the region. The EAF was the first institution in Colombia to offer a Business Administration program. In 1962, it consolidated as a Technological Institute and in 1966, it changed its name to EAFIT (the acronym in Spanish) to reflect this evolution. The School of Management and Finance and the Technological Institute achieved Colombian Ministry of National Education recognition as the Universidad EAFIT in 1971, with the School of Management and Finance (currently School of Management (SoM)/School of Economics and Finance (SoEF)) as the primary academic unit. During the 1970s, the university opened its Master’s in Business Administration (MBA), one of the first programs of its kind in Colombia. The School of Management now offers undergraduate degrees, graduate certificates, Master’s, and Doctoral programs, as well as provides continuing education and senior management training courses. These programs are offered at the main Medellin campus as well as at other two campuses in Bogotá (the capital of Colombia), and Pereira (mid-size city). The ongoing research, innovations (consulting and technological transfer), and outreach courses allow the institution actively contribute to the social and economic development of Colombia.
