About the School
Guangdong Ocean University is a comprehensive university characterized by ocean and aquaculture and multidisciplinary coordinated development. It is a key construction university in Guangdong Province. Its predecessor was Guangdong Provincial Shantou Advanced Aquatic Vocational School, which was founded in 1935. After several migration and name change, it was renamed Zhanjiang Aquatic College in June 1963, and upgraded to an undergraduate college directly under the Ministry of Agriculture in September 1979, and changed its name to Zhanjiang Aquatic College. In January 1997, Zhanjiang Aquaculture College and Zhanjiang Agricultural College merged to form Zhanjiang Ocean University. In December 2001, Zhanjiang Meteorological School was merged into Zhanjiang Ocean University. In June 2005, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, Zhanjiang Ocean University was renamed Guangdong Ocean University. Since June 2010, the Guangdong Provincial People's Government and the State Oceanic Administration have jointly built Guangdong Ocean University.
Guangdong Ocean University adheres to the concept of "quality establishment, talent strengthening school, academic revitalization, and characteristic development", and implements the three strategies of connotation development, characteristic development and innovative development. Based in Guangdong, facing the South China Sea, it radiates the whole country, with the goal of building a high-level marine university with distinctive marine and aquatic characteristics, and cultivates a national High-quality professionals and industry elites with an international perspective and a sense of social responsibility, full of independent learning ability, practical ability and innovative spirit, serve the national marine industry and local economic and social development.
