About the School
Chongqing Jiaotong University is a multidisciplinary university with distinctive traffic characteristics and mainly engaged in work. In 1951, according to Chairman Mao's instructions, in order to build Kangzang Highway and Southwest China, the Southwest Military and Political Commission presided over by Deng Xiaoping founded a school, then known as Southwest Transportation College. In 1960, Chongqing Jiaotong College was established. Subsequently, the Department of Civil Engineering of Chengdu Institute of Technology, the Department of Metallurgy of Sichuan Metallurgical College, and the Department of Hydraology of Wuhan Institute of Water Transport were merged one after another. In 2000, the school was transferred from the Ministry of Transport to Chongqing to jointly build a university for the provincial department. In 2006, the school was renamed Chongqing Jiaotong University and added as a doctoral degree awarding unit.
The conditions for running the school are improving day by day. The school currently has three campuses: South Bank, Science City and Daping, covering an area of more than 3,000 mu. The total value of fixed assets of the school is 3.719 billion yuan, the total value of various instruments and equipment is 774 million yuan, the construction area of the school building is 855,800 square meters, and the school building area is 132,900 square meters. There is one national and six municipal experimental teaching demonstration centers. The library has a collection of 4.276 million volumes, including 2.229 million paper documents and 2.047 million e-books. More than 1,000 newspapers and periodicals are subscribed every year, and about 50 Chinese and foreign language databases such as SCI, EI, Elservier, CNKI, Wanfang and Weipu are purchased.
